April 15, 2010 – Dan Denton, who sold Gulfshore Media to CurtCo Publishing in 2004, has bought back two of his old titles: Sarasota and Gulfshore Life.  A CurtCo representative stated that the company is divesting the regional titles to concentrate on their growing title, Robb Report.
Denton formed Gulfshore Media LLC as part of the acquisition, but also has Florida Home Media LLC, which houses his Homebuyer magazines brand in addition to Orlando Home & Leisure.  The Homebuyer brand includes Jacksonville, Naples/Fort Myers, Orlando, Tampa Bay, and Sarasota editions.  Denton will continue to operate the business out of the Naples and Sarasota headquarters.
Regional Media Advisors represented Denton and Gulfshore Media in the deal.
October 19, 2010 – ARG Publishing Company, Inc. announced that it had acquired the relocation guide assets from Ohio Community Media, LLC (formerly Brown Publishing Company).

ARG Publishing Company was founded by Kevin Evans in 2002 and sold to Brown Publishing Company in 2008.  At the time, it published the Austin Relocation Guide, Destination DFW and several other related publications and websites serving those fast-growing metropolitan areas.  Two more relocation guides – Tucson Relocation Guide and Phoenix Relocation Guide – were  later added under the Brown Publishing umbrella.

“We have always believed that these products provide a comprehensive resource for anyone moving into or within these markets, and our ability to expand from our original two markets – Austin and Dallas – now to four speaks to the strong market response for these products.  We are pleased to continue these products under their original corporate home, and look forward to serving both our resident and advertiser constituents in the coming years,” said Kevin Evans, President & CEO of ARG Publishing Company, Inc.

“We are pleased that these unique businesses, which have served their markets well since their inception, will continue to thrive under their original ownership,” stated Rick Starks, CEO of Ohio Community Media, LLC.  “Kevin and his team created a strong group of guides, and we have no doubt that they will continue that momentum.  We wish them success.”

Regional Media Advisors was the advisor for ARG Publishing Company, Inc. in the transaction; Dirks, Van Essen & Murray was the advisor for Ohio Community Media, LLC.  Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Ohio Community Media, LLC, formerly known as Brown Publishing Company, publishes daily and weekly newspapers in Ohio.  Ohio Community Media LLC, along with its affiliates, filed a voluntary petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Regional Media Advisors is the only M&A advisory firm dedicated to the regional media market, serving local, regional and state print and online regional businesses.

Dirks, Van Essen & Murray specializes in daily and non-daily newspapers.
